Can't remember the last time a movie made me cry this much. Such a powerful movie, with great scenes, romance, laughter, tears through sadness and joy. I can't say I've seen a lot of war movies, but this one really opened my eyes, very well directed with great actors. I can't get over how strong this movie was, oh my god my face is still puffy and I feel so emotionally drained thinking about every person who has ever gone to war, either died fighting for what they thought was right or coming back and having to deal with losing so many friends and most having to live with PTSD. Wow, what a movie.

Hacksaw Ridge is easily one of the best war movies we've gotten in recent years. Mel Gibson knows this genre as well as anyone and he delivers an emotional and incredible true story with great characters and amazing action. Andrew Garfield really anchors this film and gives the best performance of his career by a long shot. The same goes for Teresa Palmer. Then you get excellent supporting performances from Sam Worthington, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving and Luke Bracey. I think this movie is a Best Picture competitor if the Academy can put Gibson's past comments behind him and its going to be one of the most significant and most memorable movies of 2016.

I'm not sure how and why a movie, in which
the main character's strongest believe is not to kill people
, could celebrate the killing of people so much. While this movie did have some clear "the terror of war" scenes, the finale
did exactly what I've come to expect of Hollywood movies, glorified the "good guys" (soldiers), their weapons, and their belief in killing the enemy to defend their values.
I know that the movie is based on the accounts of the survivors, so I won't argue for inconsistencies. However, regarding if killing people is supposed to be right or wrong, the convictions and beliefs of the main character seem half-hearted to me. His past, as shown in the film, suggests
his unwillingness to use a weapon is rooted more in a high sense of guilt over violent outburst against family members than his religious beliefs. Otherwise, I'd suggest he might have reacted more strongly to all the other people killing around him.
Most of these men don't believe the same way you do, but they believe so much in how much you believe.

Hacksaw Ridge is directed by Mel Gibson and written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight. It is based on the 2004 documentary The Conscientious Objector. It stars Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthing More

I don't want to say that I dislike Mel Gibson as an actor, I mean he's been in plenty of movies that I love... but like Clint Eastwood, he makes a FAR better director than he ever made an actor.

Hacksaw Ridge is just one of those films where he does a great job... unfortunately it is Mel Gibson, More

**A really good movie, which only lacks in some details.**

This was not the first war film directed by Mel Gibson. He had previously made at least one military-themed film, “We Were Soldiers”, set in Vietnam. However, it is a film that addresses much more human and intimate themes, in my opin More

***Tribute to a real-life WW2 “conscientious collaborator”***

After Pearl Harbor, Desmond Doss of Lynchburg, Virginia, joins the US Army to become a medic and serves at the Battle of Okinawa. As a Seventh Day Adventist and conscientious objector, his goal was to save lives, not kill, which n More
