Wether you love or hate Gilbert, I recommend this documentary. we foten forget that the people we see on stages are characters, even with stand up comics. Behind the scenes, it is not uncommon for someone to be the complete opposite of the character they play. This documentary explores this reality in a light that most would never suspect about Gilbert.
Following along with Gilbert himself, viewers get an inside look at the balance between Gilbert the character and Gilbert the everyday guy. Contrary to popular belief, if these two aspects of himself met in the street, they'd have no clue who the other was.
From meeting those nearest and dearest to Gilbert, to learning about his upbringing, and taking a walk with him on and off the stage, this documentary captures the reality of stage persona versus person. Viewers embark on various journies to some of the comedy clubs and scenes where Gilbert first began his career to those he frequents today. In addition, various stars join in a conversational format making the journey highly engaging by providing multiple perspectives. perspectives on Gilbert's trials and tribulations throughout his life and career.
Wether you are a fan of Gilbert or not, this is a must see film. The distinct style of the director provides a format that many biographical documentary films lack. Because of this it provides one of the most intimate and entertaining views of a famous comedian and actor, while simultaneously demonstrating the fact that human beings are not simple, but rather comolex, beings.
