One of the very best SciFi movies I've seen, and despite being 17 years old it does not look dated.

Aims big. Works for a while but becomes boring, really boring, and the sci-Fi elements never really develop beyond mentioning DNA. Add social implications and you have a movie that is pure Oscar bait in Sci-Fi clothes. It dulled the imagination for me.

20 years later and I really enjoyed it! The best movie I saw in this weak Summer! Great performances from Ethan Hawke and Jude Law. Totally recommend it.

This was a pretty entertaining watch. I kinda disagree with some of the world logic. But the premise was interesting and the acting was pretty good all around, although Uma Thurman is a little lackluster. The middle seems to get a little boring. While I was watching, I couldn't put my finger on it. But in this sci-fi world, the story kinda just turns into a murder mystery. Which is what would happen in the modern world. Suddenly all the social commentary is gone and the sci-fi elements become superfluous.

***The eugenics-obsessed future in 40s/50s noir***

Several decades in the future liberal eugenics is normal and discrimination is practiced to distinguish "valids" from "in-valids," the latter conceived by natural means and therefore more susceptible to genetic defects. Vincent (Ethan Hawke) is a More

_Gattaca_ leads you to believe it's about the social consequences of genetically engineering people. It starts out with a couple of quotes about the wisdom of mucking around with Mother Nature, and it, originally, ends with a list of genetically "defective" people, like JFK and Einstein, who might n More
