I love the original _Fright Night_, but I had no idea there was even a sequel, until recently.
While this one started with a lot of promise, it would repeatedly drop the ball.
Returning from the first movie are Charley, and Peter, picking up three years after the end of the previous film.
What I liked about the movie is the atmosphere: just like part one, it keeps the slow, eerie, dark, yet very '80s feel.
What I didn't like was almost every other part. The movie did not need to be this long. Did we really need a scene with our villains bowling?
Speaking of our villains... to be blunt, our lead vampire, Regine, is boring. Also, it feels like a mistake to overload this with the amount of bad guys as we get: Belle - a rollerskating vampire (yes, you read that correctly) - Bozworth - a Renfield of sorts - and Louie - a werewolf. Why is a werewolf hanging out with vampires? For a moment I thought he was just a weird, hairy vampire, but no, he's a werewolf. It's almost as if the person who made this didn't understand monster lore.
For anyone who liked the gross-out deaths from the first movie, that follows into this one.
While there are some good moments here - including a scene that was totally lifted from _A Nightmare of Elm Street_ - this just fails to recreate the excitement that the first movie brought.
I can't recommend this to fans of the original, but if you do watch it, what's likely to happen is you'll gain a deeper appreciation for just how good the first movie is.
