Good but not the film to watch. The value of this film lies in the incomparable archival footage captured by the Kraffts. However, the filmmaker presents a very one-sided portrait of the couple, leaving important aspects ignored. This is why Werner Herzog’s film, released around the same time, is infinitely superior. (I’ll comment on it in its own entry.) This film is also severely marred by the narration, both the text, which is insipid, saccharine, and often laughingly exaggerated in tone, and its reading by Miranda July, whose breathy monotone soon grates and should put an end to any voice-over career she might have thought of pursuing.

Excellent movie, probably the best documentary of 2022. The technical level of the film is excellent and the cinematographic references are exceptional. The only criticism I have is that the film loses strength in the main final act due to its exposition. :crazy_face:Everyone already knows that they love themselves and science lol

The film editing about the moment on Colombia, was special to watch, let in me remember mi countrym, and im happy that this was part of them lifes, even when was just to saw the level of human distrust, and can take the iniciative to change it.

This is visually stunning, but I don’t entirely understand the decision to make their relationship the focus of this documentary. Is it to avoid Planet Earth comparisons? It tries really hard to sell you on this idea that their relationship was something special, and that all of their achievements in life are somehow connected to their bond, which just doesn’t ring true to me. Clearly we need some character development, but you should let the visuals do the heavy lifting here. Instead, we get some distractingly bad narration that often tries to overwork or oversell what’s being shown, while simultaneously lacking critical insight regarding this couple’s more dangerous escapades. Still a fine documentary overall, but I’d probably like it slightly more on mute. 6/10

I will admit to never having heard of Katia and Maurice Kraft before I watched this, and although I did find it interesting, I cannot really say I am too much the wiser about them now either. What makes this documentary work is the amazing footage of nature at it's most beautiful and hostile. It is More

Mixed feelings on this one, as the protagonists seem to be a curious mix of scientists and obsessive-compulsive thrill seekers.
