Motherhood gone terribly wrong

A perfect mixture of balls to the wall hilarious fun (*Evil Dead II*) and bloodfest nightmare fuel (*Evil Dead 2013*). It's not as comedically over-the-top or as scary as these two but it's somewhere in the middle with it's tone. Lots of visual callbacks to the previous four movies. Different setting but same isolation. It opens up with the coolest intro title card reveal i've even seen, the sound was bone chilling in the theater.

The buildup with the two sisters was necessary but the kids were cringe material, some of these were terrible actors. The movie is great at building tension but then you get a cringe moment with the kids and it kinda takes me out of it. It does that on repeat in the second act. Grotesque visuals, lots of realistic blood and gore, great sound, love the appartment set piece, perfect look and makeup for the Deadites, awesome final creature design and Alyssa Sutherland was the standout of the movie. I saw the whole third act unfolding before it happened unfortunately, it just becomes so obvious once you see the setup and objects involved. I can't deny it was still a bloody wild ride.

***Evil Dead Rise*** had some big shoes to fill with the previous entries being so great, while it doesn't top *Evil Dead II* or *Evil Dead 2013* it's still a good horror movie. I was expecting more than a good horror movie though, considering what franchise this is.

I'll never look at a cheese grater the same way again...
