Well-intentioned, eternally bumbling Ernest P. Worrell accidentally releases an evil demon from its sacred tomb. As the demon flexes its power and goes on a ruinous rampage, good-guy Ernest tries to step in to save the town from mass destruction. Trouble is, a 200-year-old curse has scared Ernest stupid, and that means hilarity all around! So, kick back and let the laugh-ridden adventures begin.

Going into something called “Ernest Scared Stupid” and expecting an Oscar winning performance is crazy It was *the* thing to watch for kids in the 90’s and played on cable TV every Halloween. It’s a staple for many people. It’s ridiculous, entertaining, goofy and a little creepy for kids. Jim Varney as a person could’ve taken many routes in life, but chose to entertain children until the day he died. Even if you don’t have kids, give it a watch. If you have kids, you should’ve already watched this. And Halloweentown!

I disagree with other reviewers like Dann. The movie looked great, employing the best special effects of its day. Ernest has wild facial expressions. He's like the Jim Carrey of his day. Young ones will enjoy it. Not so much for older adults. Although I am young at heart, even I had trouble getting into this film. The film is really targeted towards the young ones.

Few movies are brave enough to put “stupid” in their title, but Ernest Scared Stupid has no illusions about what it is. Clearly meant for children (and only children) the comedy is incredibly juvenile and slapstick-ish. And the acting, if it can be called that, is horrendous. The sets, costumes, and special effects are also terrible, looking especially fake and cheap. Lacking the charm and fun of the earlier films, Ernest Scared Stupid is complete garbage.
