After a painful journey through Europe, Aleksei, a Belarusian, joins the Foreign Legion in France and clings to a confused hope of a European identity. Like the kind of movie I would make, but still pretty good anyway. It's an earnest indie effort about a clandestine Belarusian in the French foreign legion and sibling Nigerian revolutionaries whose lives intertwine. There are some unnecessary gimmicks and some heavy symbolism (I'd be all over those if I were a filmmaker) but the film's sincerity tip the scales in its favor.
