All in all, I don’t think Demonic (2015) is a bad movie. It has an intriguing story with lots of unexpected twists, an entertaining narrative that builds solid tension, and an interesting mix of genres all rolled into one film. The ending is well-executed, and there’s a good portion of jump scares and creepy moments. So why didn’t it really “click” for me? I think it came down to the characters. I just couldn’t stand them. They were full of clichés and generally unlikeable—there was no way to feel much empathy for them, let alone relate to them in any meaningful way.

In recent movies, I’ve noticed this matters more to me: either I need to connect with or at least care about the characters, or it’s hard to stay engaged. I had the same issue with Alien Romulus where, for some reason, almost all the characters were annoying, and I wasn’t really rooting for anyone’s survival. So when they were in danger, it just didn’t hit as hard, and that’s exactly how it felt here with Demonic.

If they had put more effort into creating characters that could truly engage the viewer, it would have been a completely different experience. A well-crafted character can make even a mediocre storyline feel gripping because they pull you into their world. But here, that essential connection was missing. Other than that, the rest of the film was pretty solid and offered something a bit different from the usual. I certainly didn’t expect this kind of movie, but in the end, I wasn’t exactly disappointed. It just didn’t fully ignite that spark for me.
