Glenn Close in her prime. Great actress but not a looker. Even in Fatal Attraction, nope.

Gosh. No. It's 90% boring. How those Americans have ruined this historical novel is beyond me. The template is clearly a master piece but somehow they ruined the vibe. I can't even explain why it feels so screwed up... Perhaps because they hate the French deep inside.... Just kidding. I guess it's meant to be a frivole yet cruel power game with lots of passion, desire (and admittedly sexual harassment) but I've never felt believable sexual attraction - real or pretended - between any of the actors. Malkovich, who I usually like, is the worst. His constant whispering. His Mephisto wig. Horrible. Better watch *Cruel Intentions*. The only memorable thing is perhaps the costumes and the parks (which should have deserved more screentime and better camera work).

It's far from the best movie I've ever seen but for sure it ain't the worst one. And compared to the attention grabbing crap they are putting out today this was enjoyable. I also like watching known actors in the early stages of their careers.

A cross between "Cruel Intentions" and "The Favourite" even though this film came out before both of those. A very intriguing film the has a slow pace but manages to keep yoyr attention the whole time. Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Michelle Pfeiffer are all great.

It superbly reflects the pre-revolutionary French aristocracy.

The last twenty minutes feel like they're tacked on by a third party and don't belong.

John Malkovich harrasses women for two hours with the help of Glenn Close. This is all part of their personal vendettas but it's also like a sexual thing between them. Keanu Reeves it's also dragged into this for no reason. Somehow this makes for a good movie, and I probably would have loved it if there weren't so many scenes of borderline to straight up sexual assault. Leaving that aside, I enjoyded this film, if only because it has one of the best costumes I've seen in a movie, and probably my favorite set in the 18th century. Don't think I'll rewatch it tho, but seeing all those beautiful historically accurate robes à la français for two hours was a delight.
