If you are a Kevin Smith fan, you will love this movie.

As if Kevin Smith’s ego wasn’t big enough already, here comes the documentary Clerk, chronicling his rise from celebrated indie artist to pop culture icon. Beginning with his debut film, Clerks, Smith’s career as a filmmaker is explored, along with how he transitioned into podcasting, comedy shows, and comic-book writing; building a tightknit community and a devoted following. Smith and his family members are interviewed, as well as a number of his friends and co-workers. And, for the most parts, they’re pretty honest about Smith’s ups and downs and his limitations as a filmmaker; though there are a few glaring omissions and positive spins put on his failings. Still, the film does an impressive job at covering the different phases and controversies of Smith’s varied career. Well-crafted and inspirational, Clerk shows how Smith was able to rise from humble beginnings to become a leading social influencer.
