Buddy Amaral, a successful and self-absorbed Los Angeles advertising executive, switches airline tickets with a stranger just before boarding a long-delayed flight so that he might enjoy an overnight fling with a pretty Dallas businesswoman. When the plane goes down, killing all aboard, Buddy's guilt soon turns into an alcohol problem. As part of his 12-step program, Buddy seeks atonement and decides to seek out the woman he thinks he's left a widow.

The best thing about this movie is that you get to see two really good actors sinking their teeth into a decent script. I forgot how good each actor could be, and their chemistry is fantastic. I think the movie was limited in that the conflict is hanging over every scene, and you know that it is going to need to be dealt with. I have to say I enjoyed this more than I thought. Gwyneth Paltrow turns in a strong performance as Abby, a widow who has gone through one year of her life with a feeling of guilt about her husband and dreads that everyone walks on egg shells around her since she is "that widow". While her relationship is developing with Buddy(Affleck), she convincingly gets you to buy in to her internal struggle she feels that these two men somehow can't coexist in her thoughts/life. A strange concept. A lot of people hate Affleck but he does just fine with this heavy topic too. The movie might move a little slow for some and it does end up with a little too much romantic cheese with the repetition of some corny lines from earlier in the flick, but it's worth a watch.
