Idk if I liked where the story went as I felt like the beginning premise was already compelling enough. That said, I still think this movie deserved its nomination with such an emotional story.

It begins as an interesting approach to bullying, manifesting itself as a reflection of adult society. "If you weren't the bully, then you were being bullied." And he's poignant and accurate in his depiction of the victim and her abusers. But the last hour turns into a cheesy teenage romantic drama that ends up burying the virtues of the beginning. The film was banned by the Chinese government, but the ban was eventually dropped. The "spot" at the end seems imposed to be in line with the anti-bullying campaign initiated by the Chinese government.

Edit: I later found out the novel this movie was based on is suspected of plagiarizing Keigo Hinashino's two novels "Journey Under the Midnight Sun" and "The Devotion of Suspect X". I've never read the two books so I'm not sure how similar the movie is to the two books.
