This is a very good film, not anywhere near as good as the first four of the series, but for only one reason. 10 minutes. The Japanese release of 'Battle' contains an extra 10 minutes of footage that I feel is not only important to the storyline, but it completely changes the feel of the film. Without those crucial 10 minutes of footage, the viewer is thus given a somewhat watered down t.v. series type version of the film, originally done to attract a more younger audience. I personally love this film either way, Trust me, before critisizing 'Battle For The Planet Of The Apes', seek out the Japanese release and see for yourself just how different (and better) a decent film can become with only 10 minutes of added storyline.

Summary: What feels like.. another refresh, luckily still having direct consequences from the previous film, it's a good yet simple story. The deepest point of philosophy from my understanding is it's anti-reverse racism. Just a solid story and decent ending to the franchise. 6/10 Pros: • I like the slow growth of the waring factions, though they are a bit simplistic in mindset. • I love the debate of reverse racism. The apes treating humans less than in response to the humans once treating them as such. Especially Macdonald's view of it. • I see apes doing ape things like climbing trees, the first time in this whole series. Cons: • Simplistic antagonist philosophies • Long to the point.

The "Planet of the Apes" series is certainly a mixed bag success-wise. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's made up of great movies but through the first four flicks, it has always entertained. But with this fifth and final movie it fails on all counts.
