Loved the dense symbolism and themes in this. Hollywood is portrayed as a hell where art and creativity go to die, first as Barton is stuck in his writer’s block, then as he is forced to continually labor under his contract with no hope of putting anything meaningful on the screen. Barton is hypocritical in his dream of creating art for the common man, as he interrupts “common man” Charlie whenever he tries to talk about himself. The burning hotel scene is completely left-field, but also a thematically fitting climax. Probably my favorite Coen Brothers movie I’ve seen so far.
