If you ever have the time, try to hunt down and read the original screenplay that was *wildly* different from the finished movie. In it, the time machine was a refrigerator-like device and the only way to get Marty back to 1985 was to use the blast of an atomic bomb; in fact, if you've seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, you've seen almost the *exact* original ending to Back to the Future. Marty and Doc sneak the time machine onto an American nuclear testing site complete with empty homes and mannequins, but instead of Indiana Jones surviving the blast inside a lead-lined refrigerator hurtled away from the blast, the amount of energy released right as the bomb was detonated was enough to immediately send Marty back to 1985 before the devastation of the bomb could harm the machine or Marty. <br /> <br /> It's seriously such an in interesting screenplay to read because of how incredibly different the final product was. It's still tightly and cleverly written, but just so different that you can't help but keep reading.
