This movie reminded of a special feature I saw a long time ago on the Spirited Away DVD. The specifics aren't important, but Hayao Hiyazaki made the animators observe life. They emulated a snake falling from a tree when animating a dragon falling. It looked life-like and magical at the same time. No one can argue the quality of Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend is on par with a masterpiece like Spirited Away. I'm arguing that the reason Baby made me so angry is that the filmmakers didn't seem to care. The dinosaurs looked fake as hell. Their movement was unnatural. The story was fine, but I can't forgive them for how bad they messed up the dinosaurs.

Rated PG family movies sure were different back then. Other than the topless scenes, I had to chuckle when one characters line was “If she was my wife, I’d whip that bitch”, lol for a kids movie. But for quality, the story felt stale and dragged on and on. I did chuckle when the soldiers were spraying their beverages in Nigel’s face and the gimp footed dinosaur effects but it still didn’t save the entertainment value.

Must have made some of an impression on me as a child since I remembered some details about it. I just rewatched it now. While the effects have nothing on Jurassic Park which was made 8 years later. Baby is at least better than the jungle adventure Congo. The earthquakes in that film were as if someone was just shaking a camera. You just have to some how look passed how fake the dinosaurs look in this film. The plot of dinosaurs in the jungle for anyone to find is silly as well. Otherwise there's actually some charm in the movie. I'm just surprised Disney had anything to with the movie when the couple stop everything to have a quickie in the jungle. You also have a pilot telling George (William Kat) he should "whip the bitch", when his wife doesn't listen.

A grass eating brontosaurus apparently eats people when they are mad at them enough. The movie is Indiana Jones meets Jurassic Park. If Jurassic Park had rubber dinosaurs. Or if Indiana Jones’ action was more silly than exciting. Yet, nostalgia is why I give it a 7. Funny that the late Jerry Goldsmith said the Mummy was the worst movie he scored and he wouldn’t do the sequel. No, he did worse movies like this, Congo, the Medicine Man… At least his scores weren’t ever bad.
