So… I might have been a bit grumpy the last time I reviewed Armour of God. This was THE movie for me in my later teens, and I was quite surprised by my reaction to it the last time. Calling it “hard to love” and “have a serious lack of pace” is just not right. It still got some weird pacing, but calling it boring in the middle as I did last time is a stretch.

However, there are some small problems. The story is a bit “simple”, and there are some odd chemistry between the leads that I can't really put my finger on.

Anyway, the main attraction of Armour of God is not the story, but the action and stunts. Jackie Chan of old usually produces some of the best choreographed fight scenes in the industry, and in Armour of God you get them in spades. Then we have the stunts. There are a few moments in this one that makes you wonder how Jackie survived doing some of them, and when you get to the blooper reel in the credits, you can see that he nearly didn't. When it comes to excitement, Armour of God really delivers.

This time I watched Armour of God on the newly 2k remastered Blu-ray release from 88 Films, and that was a treat. Now I just have to get through hours of extras…

Armour of God is a movie that is hard to love. The action is excellently choreographed as usual from anything Jackie Chan had his hands in back then, but on the other hand, the movie has some serious lack of pace. It makes the whole thing grind to a halt midway through. The beginning and the end are good enough, but there's half an hour in the middle that is just plain dull. The chemistry between the two male leads is also non-existent, which again make many scenes cringeworthy. There's also a serious lack of good comedy, which makes me think there's something being lost in the translation.

Anyway...there's no way you can't have watched this if you are a Jackie Chan fan, but this one leaves a lot to be desired and might not be for the casual action fan.
