Social satire. With no dialogue, or at least no recognisable words. What
could go wrong? I think the writer had to be aware of making the story progress fast enough and be funny enough without dialogue. It does OK. It's hard to find humour other than drawing simularities in how humans act like apes, and sometimes this can have a deeper meaning. Sometimes I don't think messages are powerful enough, even though I understand the relationshiip dynamic or hierarchy message. Lets face it, sometimes they're just dick jokes. Pace fine but some scenes hang around after they've already made the point. I definitely was not looking forward to it, but I'm glad I checked it out. Some could see his movie as a personal attack, and it probably is. It does feel a little bit like an elitist looking down upon the majority and making them look stupid. Its a bit like 'look how idiotic people are and I'm the one analysing the apes.' I tend to agree with that, but I don't feel an elitist. Maybe frustrated. You can't deny the world we live in and the fact most people are stupid. This doesnt offer a solution or a root cause analysis. Now saying all that, I think its deep enough hit it doesnt progress much on the ideas. So this is any easy movie to either overrate or underrate depending on your personal connection with the material. I'm going to judge it more on its structure, progression and content. Jokes are hit and miss. The movie loses impact after the initial curiosity wears away, and it's left looking like just another modern BBC comedy show. It really does run out of steam badly and the plot is a mess. In the end it comes across as a bunch of comedians trying to make some edgy work.
