It deals with relevant issues with wonderful simplicity, using Holocaust tourism as a springboard to show the vulnerabilities of its characters. The journey of the two cousins ​​who search for the origin of their family in Poland is told with simple resources and a very subtle drawing of secondary characters who are adequately defined to be the counterpoint to the main couple. It has a script that is sometimes too cerebral and structured, more like David Kaplan than Benji Kaplan, and in that structuring it loses some emotion. But it manages to create the representation of an internal pain that Kieran Culkin skillfully moulds.

A Real Pain is a funny and smartly written film but also hard to watch.

'A Real Pain' is a real solid watch. It makes up for its no-frills with plenty of heart and a meaningful buddy road trip. It's described as a comedy-drama and it is, though I'd say it's more the latter than the former; albeit with a still sizeable dose of comedy, it is amusing.
