During the Civil War in 17th-Century England, a small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by an alchemist, who forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.

This film is very beautiful. That's all I can say that's positive, really. I'm so disappointed. I love films that don't hold your hand and leave it up to the viewer to put things together and come to a conclusion. This is not one of those films. This is a film that focuses entirely on cinematography and audio and ends up having zero plot because of it. Nothing works together and it feels like a chore to watch because there's nothing to follow and no real character development. Unfortunately, this movie just ends up coming off as pretentious garbage, something that might have worked as a short film in an art installation, but not a full-length movie.

When I saw that shitting scene, suddenly everything was clear as a day. Ben Wheatley was extremely constipated when he was filming this artsy-fartsy flick. And the result is bad indeed.

It literally took me four viewings to watch this without falling asleep early on. While I love Ben Wheatley's other movies, this one was just not captivating at all.

In an off-camera field somewhere in England, a battle is raging. A small, vicious part of the English Civil Wars of the mid-17th century. Stumbling out of the hedgerow into the empty neighbouring field is Whitehead (Reece Shearsmith, The League of Gentlemen). He's clearly no soldier and he's no hear More
