I think the movie is the version from 1957 and not the remake as indicated in fact I'm positive.

Finally got around to watching this. The 1957 Lumet masterpiece is one of my all-time favourites, so I didn't feel the desire to see what I expected to be a far inferior offering. Well I came away with mixed emotions. There are some good elements here and the cast is first rate. My criticism comes from a lot of the dialogue and acting to feel ignorant by force. The amount of stubbornness and how it was portrayed became too much. A lot of passive aggressiveness. Still, that was by design. I stayed up until 530am to watch it so there is a rather large element of watchability here. 7.0.

If you don't know the original, then "12 Angry Men" from 1997 is certainly a fantastic movie. However, as a new version of the 1957 film of the same name, it is a somewhat superfluous remake. This is because director William Friedkin decided to stick exactly to the original. Apart from a slightly more diverse cast, there are virtually no changes. Even the court case, including the discussion between the jurors, is virtually identical. Accordingly, there are no surprises. That doesn't make the movie bad in itself, but there isn't really any reason to watch the 1997 version over the original.
